Over the past two decades, Essence Magazine has covered the chilling Assata Shakur case. We have interviewed her while she was in exile. We have challenged the bounty that has been placed on her head. Once again we join with those calling for a full independent investigation of the case, which this 60-year-old grandmother absolutely  deserves.
 
Medical evidence showed that she was shot while her hands were in the air. Forensic evidence proved that none of the weapons found at the scene of the shooting had her fingerprints on them and police tests showed that there was no gunshot residue on her hands.
 
Assata Shakur and her family have suffered in ways we can hardly imagine.
 
It time for us to do what is just and what is right.  Bring Assata Shakur home!  Bring the truth to light!
